Once Personal Leave has been exhausted, any additional time away from work will be unpaid. For exempt (salaried) employees, accrued leave must be available to cover any full workday missed.
To avoid overpayment, an exempt (salaried) employee should immediately submit an Unpaid Leave absence request in Workday once Personal Leave is exhausted. This places the exempt (salaried) employee on a “Leave of Absence without Pay” status. The Unpaid Leave option can be found under “Leave Types” within the Request Absence task in Workday.
Medical Time cannot be used for personal absences.
1st Day Illness or Unpaid Time Off must be used as eight hours (prorated for a part-time employee) before Medical Time Off may be used. When you exhaust all medical time, your personal hours will be used for the remainder of your absence.
Should an employee pass away with accumulated Personal Time Off hours, the wages or salary for the total unused Personal Time time shall be paid to the person designated by the employee for this purpose or, in the absence of such designation, to the beneficiary of the employee as recorded with the PERS or ORP accounts.
